Kitchen Island
Family life is important to the client; therefore, the space was designed to be a social environment with no appliances on the top of the island to allow it to become the central hub and to encourage guests to gather around (and drink wine!) Towards the back of the island there is a wine fridge, being accessible, as well as lots of drawers to make it a practical working space.
Reflecting onto the other side, the hob and sink are positioned where they are to allow the client to have lots of space to be experimental on the island. The client highlighted during the design process that she is a messy cook, therefore it was important to have lots of clear workstations. Underneath, there are drawers designed to store pots and pans, making it easy and convenient for the client to fill them up with water when cooking and moving them over to the gas hob. The kitchen splashback is a Caesarstone raw concrete, a beautiful non-porous material with a matte finish, being a surface which is easy to clean and maintain- perfect for messy chefs.
Pantry
Looking through into the pantry and the glass window, the space has been opened to allow lots of light to enter the space to give it a bigger feel. It is also a lovely design feature, drawing your eyes upwards and across the room.
To add continuity from the hallway into the pantry, the tiles on the back wall are the same bespoke Popham tiles. They are concrete tiles handmade in Marrakech, which are fully customisable to complement your space. Working with us, the client decided to choose a traditional colour combination inspired by artichokes with warm and inviting tones. Focusing on details, there is an LED strip of lights underneath the cabinetry in the pantry, drawing your eyes towards the space in the darker hours to create a beautiful view.
Collaborating with the contractor, the boiler was moved into a high unit in the pantry and the pipework was cleverly concealed (with service access at the bottom) to have a completely clear run of tiles.
